Duo Doha bound hours after ending wait for #FTLMajor gold
Golden boys Nick Lucena and Phil Dalhausser have little time to celebrate their Fort Lauderdale Major gold – they’re on their way to Doha for the next tournament.
The pair ended their wait for a gold medal on Fort Lauderdale Beach at the third attempt having won silver at the World Tour Finals in 2015 and bronze in last season’s Major.
And the Floridians were thrilled to finally secure the top prize on home sand in front of friends and family on Fort Lauderdale Beach.
“It’s the one tournament I’ve wanted to win, it’s my hometown where I started playing. This is everything I’d hoped. We finally won,” said Fort Lauderdale’s very own Nick Lucena.
“Phil played great all weekend and I played steady enough to keep us in there. There’s a lot of great teams on this Tour and to win is hard. I’m grateful.”
Despite the fact that Doha is now at the forefront of their minds, Dalhausser was still in good spirits after the victory.
“I feel pretty darn good to say the least,” said the 2008 Olympic champ. “Nick and I played great all weekend and we were just super steady. The Italians were tough, they were able to do a little better in the second there. It was close to the end and we ended up winning It's a great feeling.
“Third time’s a charm.”
Congratulations, guys!
