Starved of beach volleyball? Want time to go quicker? We’re here to help…
There’s just five months until international beach volleyball bursts back on the scene when the Fort Lauderdale Major lands on Florida’s golden sands in February.
It sounds a long time. And it seems even further away when you calculate that it’s about 3,600 hours before the drama begins. That’s a mind-boggling 216,000 minutes of waiting. Okay, okay, sorry, you get the picture.
But with this in mind, and in a desperate attempt to try and make the time go quicker, here’s our five-step guide to whiling away the hours before Fort Lauderdale and make you think about nothing but beach volleyball.
Step one: Make yourself familiar with the wonderful world of beach volleyball. How? Well, one of your first ports of call should be the Beach Major Series YouTube channel. There you can immerse yourself in the brilliant beach vibe: we’ve got exclusive and up-close-and-personal interviews with the stars, breathtaking rallies from all of our past tournaments and videos featuring one of the best things about the sport: the crazy crowd! There are over 300 action-packed videos, and here’s a pretty good example…
So what are you waiting for? Click subscribe now!
Step two: Book your flights to Fort Lauderdale. You heard us! What better way to look forward to a week beside the sea than guaranteeing your attendance on the Center Court? Scour the internet for the best deals and we’ll see you there. Fort Lauderdale has its own airport (FLL) or fly to the next-nearest airport, Miami (MIA). Remember, entry to the Fort Lauderdale Major will be free, so what else will you have to worry about? Book those flights! Do it, do it now!
Step three: Read up on all things beach volleyball. The best way to do that of course is by reading the Beach Major Series website. You’ll be surprised what incredible information you can find out while surfing through our wonderful website. For example, where else can you find out that Olympic winner champion Bruno Oscar Schmidt likes playing the saxophone? Or that Anouk Vergé-Dépré likes the song King Push by hip hop star Pusha T? Imagine what you can do this with kind of knowledge! Hey – you could even come and work for us…
Step four: Play beach volleyball! Get down to your local club or beach and get your dig on! There aren’t many sports that give you the kind of exercise that beach volleyball does. In three months you have plenty of time to get your skills up to scratch just in time for Fort Lauderdale. Naturally it takes years of training (plus a little bit of talent, obviously) to become a superstar of the sand – but don’t let that stop you. And you never know: you might just be unaware of a hidden talent, so go on, unleash the beach volleyball hero from within you!
Step five: Learn the beach volleyball lingo. To the beach volleyball newcomer, it can be easy to get lost in conversations of chicken wings and friendly fire. So you’ll need to brush up on the weird and wonderful jargon of the sport. With a little bit of help from us, you’ll be able to hold your own in beachside chats about pokeys, floats and bumps.
So there you have it. Stick to our five-step guide and before you know it it’s February and we’ll be wondering where the time went!
See you in Fort Lauderdale, folks!
