Three teams from Canada dominate the women’s pool play draw
O Canada! The major talking point of women’s main draw line-up was that three Canadian teams will fight it out for a place in the knockout rounds later in the week.
Following the news that there will be a twist to the pool play this season, it means not all of the Canadians will face each other.
However, Pool B’s trio of teams from Canada consist of Jamie Broder and Taylor Pischke, Heather Bansley and Brandie Wilkerson and Melissa Humana-Paredes and Sarah Pavan. The only non-Canadian team in the pool are Poles Kinga Kolosinska and Katarzyna Kociolek.
Last season’s runners up, Agatha Bednarczuk and Eduarda ‘Duda’ Santos Lisboa of Brazil, begin their Fort Lauderdale Major against young German pair Sandra Ittlinger and Kim Behrens. Also in Pool G are Swiss stars Anouk Vergé-Dépré and Joana Heidrich and Dutch duo Joy Stubbe and Marleen van Iersel.
American hopes will rest on the shoulders of new partnership April Ross and Alix Klineman. The winners of last month’s The Hague tournament face a tough opening match against Germans Karla Borger and Maggie Kozuch in Pool E.
Rising US stars Kelly Claes and Sara Hughes were drawn in Pool F with their opening match against the reunited Spanish team Liliana Fernandez and Elsa Baquerizo.
