Check out these women's teams this week!
Agatha Bednarczuk and Eduarda ‘Duda’ Santos Lisboa (Brazil)
Let’s start with last season’s runners up. This Brazilian team combines the experience of 34-year-old Agatha, who won silver at the Rio Olympics in 2016, and the youthful exuberance of rising star Duda. The 19-year-old is tipped for a huge future and together the pair will be aiming to go one better than the silver they won here last season.
Chantal Laboureur and Julia Sude (Germany)
Currently the third best team in the world, this German duo are the leading European team in the World Rankings. This time 12 months ago, Chantal and Julia took home bronze – the only European team to pick up a medal across the whole tournament. No women’s team from Europe has ever won a gold medal in an American World Tour competition – will last season’s Gstaad Major champs be the team that makes history?
Sarah Pavan and Melissa Humana-Paredes (Canada)
Sitting on top of the World Rankings are this Canadian tandem who will be hoping to improve even further on their fantastic first season together last year. Sarah and Melissa reached the quarterfinals in seven of the eight tournaments and won gold in Poreč. With Sarah putting aside her indoor career to focus on the beach, this team will be making their debut at Fort Lauderdale Beach Park.
Alix Klineman and April Ross (USA)
Much will be expected of this new home team from California, who started their partnership with a bang in the Netherlands last month, winning all 10 matches en route to gold. April needs no introduction, the 35-year-old has won silver and bronze in two Olympics and was World Champion in 2009. The 35-year-old teamed up with Klineman, who won the AVP’s Rookie of the Year award in 2017, this year.
Liliana Fernandez Steiner and Elsa Baquerizo McMillan (Spain)
The number one team from Spain are back on the beach! Lili has returned to action after her baby break to team up with Elsa once again. The duo were last together in the 2016 season where they secured two silvers and one bronze medal and finished ninth in the Olympic Games. Their last tournament together came back at the Toronto Finals in Canada – how will they fair when they return to the sand in Florida.
