Exclusive: Tri Bourne is back!

American star tells us he’s got the all clear to make a comeback

Beach Volleyball Major Series

We're live with Tri Bourne for a very special announcement - see you @ the beach! #FTLMajor

Is this the best beach volleyball news you’ve heard in the last 12 months? Tri Bourne has been given the all clear by doctors to resume his career.

The American broke the news to the world exclusively live on our Facebook page that, after over a year off the sand, he’ll be able to get back on the sand and competing on the World Tour again.

Bourne, 28, last played on the World Tour at the Toronto Finals in Canada in September 2016 where together with John Hyden he won a bronze medal.

However, the Hawaii native’s life was thrown upside down when, after a minor operation, he began to suffer from symptoms that doctors could not diagnose.

Eventually, after seeing a series of specialists, and being told his liver enzymes were almost 10 times higher than they should be, Bourne was referred to the United States Olympic Committee, who sent him to doctor at the University of Utah. It was there where Tri was diagnosed with a chronic inflammatory muscle disease called dermatomyositis.

With the good news confirmed that the 6ft 5in blocker can return to action, Tri’s next step is to find a partner and reignite a beach career that had seen him win the FIVB’s Top Rookie award in 2014 and five medals on the international stage before the illness took hold.

But before of all that, Bourne will be here in Fort Lauderdale as the face of BeachStream! The American will be interviewing the players as well as giving his unique insight into the sport. So, if you’ve not signed up to BeachStream yet, here’s a good reason to do so now!

And keep your eyes peeled throughout the season as Tri shares his unique story with us.
