#FTLMajor gold for Larissa/Talita

Brazilian golden girls too hot for Agatha/Duda

Larissa/Talita: triumphant in Fort Lauderdale...again!Larissa/Talita: triumphant in Fort Lauderdale...again!

On a sizzling Sunday afternoon on Center Court, Larissa and Talita claimed a famous victory for their second successive gold medal on Fort Lauderdale Beach.

The Brazilians put on an incredible display to win in straight sets against Agatha/Duda to clinch the first international tournament of the 2017 season.

In October 2015 Larissa/Talita won the Swatch World Tour Finals on this very beach and their imperious display this week once again showed why they are among the world’s elite.

For Larissa this triumph was the 60th of her career and she was in top form to deny Agatha/Duda a gold medal in their first tournament together.

Larissa/Talita, who missed out on a bronze medal at the Olympics in the summer, were always in control of the first set which they took 21-15.

The second set was a different story as a packed Center Court, drenched in Florida sunshine, witnessed a thrilling battle for supremacy.

Agatha/Barbara beat Kerri Walsh Jennings and April Ross to make it to the semifinals on Friday night – and the pair came out all guns blazing in the second set. They cranked up the pressure on Larissa/Talita and gained a four-point lead at one point.

However, Larissa/Talita are not a world force for nothing and the duo stormed back to win a number of key rallies towards the end of the set. It was Talita had the final word of the tournament when smashing an enormous spike across court to clinch gold in style, 21-18.

Third place on the podium belonged to Germany as Europe picked up one of the six medals on offer thanks to Chantal Laboureur and Julia Sude’s fine performance in the bronze medal match. Last season’s Poreč Major champs were too good for Americans Sweat/Ross.

So, after six days of sensational play on the sand, that’s it! But it’s never over! You can watch every game from the tournament on our BeachStream channel – check it out!
