We’re down to the final eight in the men’s competition
It’s quarterfinal time for the men as the Fort Lauderdale Major really hots up on day four.
And just like the women’s bracket, it’s dominated by Americans and Brazilians!
Home heroes Lucena/Dalhausser made light work of destroying Germans Böckermann/Flüggen 21-13, 21-10 in their last 16 match.
It was good news too for Jake Gibb and Taylor Crabb as they saw off the challenge of Canadians Pedlow/Schachter on side court 2 in straight sets.
And three American teams will be on Center Court later tonight thanks to John Hyden and Ryan Doherty’s 2-1 win over Russians Liamin/Krasilnikov.
Sadly it was the end of the road for wildcards Casey Patterson and Theo Brunner as their unbeaten record in the competition came to an end in the last 16 following a defeat in three sets to Brazilians Evandro/Andre.
Brazil will also have three teams competing in the quarterfinals. 2016 Olympic champs Alison/Bruno have not been at their best so far in the tournament but they are getting the job done. They were made to work hard once again as they were taken to three sets by Polish pair Kantor/Losiak but a 15-13 score in the decider sent them through.
But Europe still have two surviving teams bidding to win a place in Saturday’s semifinals. Olympic silver medalists Lupo/Nicolai beat Canadians Plantinga/O’Gorman in three sets while Poles Fijalek/Bryl will also be in action later after their win over Herrera/Gavira.
