Men’s pool play: done!
Happiness kept on happening for the home nation at the Fort Lauderdale Major as all five American men’s team stormed through to the elimination round.
Four of the quintet topped their pool while three of them stormed into the last 16 by winning all three of their matches.
Leading the way were top seeds Lucena/Dalhausser in Pool A as they recorded a resounding straight sets win over young Russian team Stoyanovskiy/Yarzutkin.
The dream remains well and truly on for new team Patterson/Brunner as they made it three from three with yet another epic victory on Center Court – but this time they were made to work for their win against German brothers Bennet and David Poniewaz.
Also going into the draw for the last 16 with an unbeaten record were Jake Gibb and Taylor Crabb who stunned Spanish Olympians Herrera/Gavira in straight sets. And fellow Americans John Hyden and Ryan Doherty secured a crucial win in their last match against Evandro/Andre to book their spot in the next phase.
And not to be outdone, Trevor Crabb and Sean Rosenthal squeezed into the first elimination round by beating Prudel/Kujawiak – a result that eliminated the Poles.
It wasn’t all doom and gloom for Poland, though. Fijalek/Prudel were in brilliant form as they swept thesmselves through into the last 16 with three wins from three matches in Pool D – as did Kantor/Losiak in Pool E.
Two other teams go into the elimination round with unblemished records on Fort Lauderdale Beach. Olympic silver medalists from Italy, Lupo/Nicolai, maintained their 100 per cent record by beating Canadians Saxton/Schalk, while Brazilians Alvaro/Saymon also scored a third win from Pool H on Thursday morning.
The draw for the men’s elimination round takes place this afternoon, so stay tuned for all the details. In the meantime, why not watch back all the action on our BeachStream and check out all the live action, too.
