Five matches you can’t afford to miss on day three of the Fort Lauderdale Major
Another day, another dollar at the Fort Lauderdale Major! And boy have we got another epic day in store on the beach on Thursday.
And because we love to give you a heads-up on what’s not to miss every day, here’s our guide to the top five matches on day three of the Fort Lauderdale Major.
Who? Herrera/Gavira v Gibb/Taylor Crabb
Where? Center Court
When? 10.30am
Why? Both teams won each of their matches on Wednesday so expect fireworks early on Center Court as they aim to maintain their 100 per cent starts. Spaniards Herrera/Gavira have gone about their business quietly and confidently so far but face a stern test against the Americans who will be backed by a passionate crowd inside the main stadium.
Who? Saxton/Schalk v Lupo/Nicolai
Where? Side Court 4
When? 11.30am
Why? Another match that pits two in-form teams together, this is a mouthwatering prospect between two teams who always impress during the Swatch Major Series. Italians Lupo/Nicolai won Olympic silver but Saxton/Schalk of Canada, who were fourth in the World Tour Finals on home sand, never give up and are a threat to anyone.
Who? Elize Maia/Taiana v Borger/Kozuch
Where? Side Court 4
When? 12.30pm
Why? New recruit to the beach Maggie Kozuch has taken to the sand like a duck to water in her first tournament on the World Tour. Together with Karla Borger the duo blitzed Argentinians Gallay/Klug in their first match 21-13, 22-20 on Wednesday. Elize Maia and Taiana lost their opening match so the pressure is on the Brazil to win this.
Who? Laboureur/Sude v Josi/Lili
Where? Side Court 6
When? 1.30pm
Why? Straight after the match above, stick around the side courts and head down to Side Court 4 and check out this game. Germans Laboureur/Sude won the Poreč Major last year and are hunting more medals this year. They won their first match here on Wednesday – as did their opponents here, Josi and Lili – so this promises to be another fascinating clash.
Who? Ross/Walsh Jennings v Barbara/Fernanda
Where? Center Court – Floodlit
When? 7.30pm
Why? This has all the makings of a classic under the Center Court floodlights. The American Olympic bronze medalists will be cheered on by a massive crowd – but they face stiff competition from the Brazilian team which includes Olympic silver medalist Barbara. The perfect game to settle down to watch before our charity event, Cocktails with the Champions.
