There’s no stopping the debutants at the Fort Lauderdale Major
There was no stopping two new female European teams on the opening morning of the Fort Lauderdale Major.
All eyes were on German duo Karla Borger and Maggie Kozuch on side court 3 in their first match as a team – and Maggie’s first ever competitive one on sand. The pair had no easy task, either – drawn to play against super-consistent Argentinians Gallay/Klug. But the Germans wasted no time in announcing their arrival to the new season with a crushing straight sets win.
And talking of superb victories…Swiss stars Joana Heidrich and Anouk Verge-Depre were in peerless form in their first ever international appearance together as they destroyed Americans Carico/Pollock, winning the second set 21-9.
There might be no Laura Ludwig here in Florida but it was business as usual for Olympic champion Kira Walkenhorst as she and temporary teammate Julia Groβner got off to a winning start by beating fellow Germans Ittlinger/Mersmann in straight sets.
