Brazilians march through to main draw
Watch out girls, the Brazilians are in town!
The women’s main draw will be dominated by five Brazilian teams after Josi/Lili and Barbara/Fernanda made it through qualification on day one of the Fort Lauderdale Major.
Both teams breezed through their second qualification matches to enhance the South American’s chance of glory on the beach this week on Florida’s East Coast.
Fresh from her silver medal at the Rio Olympics with former teammate Agatha, Barbara and Fernanda Alves made light work of Czech duo Rehacokva/Dostalova on side court 4, winning 21-13, 21-14.
Side court 4 was also the scene for Josi and Lili’s crushing victory over Swiss pair Eiholzer/Gerson with the brilliant Brazilians oozing confidence in a match that saw them drop just 24 points.
Two American teams made it through to the main draw as Claes/Reeves scored a straight sets win over Ben Saxton’s sister Camille Saxton and her partner Julie Gordon. They were joined by Day/Hochevar also made it through at the expense of Japanese pair Murakami/Miyagawa.
Finally was good news for the Netherlands and one team in particular. Reinder Nummerdor’s wife Manon made it through to the main draw as she and her partner Marleen van Iersel saw off the challenge of Japan’s Hasegawa/Futami.
